Amsterdam Law School is responsible for ensuring the quality of examinations and the value of diplomas. There are strong indications that there have been various forms of fraud in remote testing, both in TVO and in Canvas. This is suspected to have happened on a larger scale than on-site testing. The means that the faculty has used so far to counter this (such as signing an authenticity declaration) appear to be insufficiently effective. For this reason, the faculty is now opting for a pilot with proctoring.

No suitable alternative

Before it was decided to use proctoring, the board, in close consultation with the examination committee, considered whether there was a suitable alternative, such as the use of multiple versions, limited time slots, a ban on backtracking, after-calls, and choices for essay forms. However, for examinations in the first bachelor's years in particular, these forms of examination do not offer a suitable alternative for a reliable examination. Without proctoring, this would mean that these examinations could not be taken until there are again sufficient opportunities in examination rooms, and there could be a serious study delay. 

Pilot

The pilot relates to the re-exam 'Bestuursprocesrecht'. Students who have registered for this examination will be informed separately. They will receive step-by-step instructions and the opportunity to practice with the software. The faculty will thoroughly evaluate the first experiences with proctoring and the results obtained.
