Multiple jobholding in Europe: Structure and Dynamics
Self-employed without personnel
Long-term labour market developments
I was trained as a labour economist at Utrecht University and completed my PhD at the same institution in 2013 with the thesis ‘Older Workers: the View of Dutch employers in a European perspective’. Subsequently, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the project 'Self-employed without personnel: between freedom and insecurity’.
I joined the University of Amsterdam in 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher at research centre AIAS-HSI. Since then, I have been co-responsible for the 'Value of Work' research project. I am also active in other research projects, including 'Hidden poverty' and 'Self-employed in times of crisis'. Since 2021 I am a Marie Jahoda Visiting Fellow of the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre (Digit).
My research interests are in the area of changing labour markets, quality of work, work values, technological developments, digitalization, multiple jobholding, self-employment, non-standard work arrangements, social security, personnel strategies and employers’ behaviour. I was trained as a labour economist and still see that as my 'core perspective', but I have always been very interested in other disciplinary perspectives on 'work and organisation'.
I have a strong preference for working in multidisciplinary environments, understand various disciplinary ‘languages’ and am experienced in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
